Scary Office No-More!

Well everyone, it's here.  A new year and new projects and goals. I'm so glad 2012 is gone and 2013 is here!  Last year was not my best.  There were good times and bad. The bad being cancer treatment and good being cancer free at the end of it all.  Yay!  So, moving on....

I am participating in the organizing challenge this month over at A Bowl Full of Lemons.  Week 1 is all about organizing your office space.  I spent several days working on this office, all over the new year's long weekend just past.  It was worth it.  I am so much happier already.  Yay me, haha!

Seriously though, I have been praying for the motivation to tackle this ugly monster for months (okay, seems like years, but oh well).  I have finally made some real progress!  When I say ugly monster I do not exaggerate...here is the before shot that I'll call the money shot.  It's the one picture you'll look at and say "wow, and I thought my office was bad"...soak it in for a moment and feel better that this is not your mess...

Wow, right?  Super-bad over the top seriously would make a type A person freak out - mess!  My hubby uses this room all the time, and I stay out because I can't stand the mess.  He's got man stuff all over the place (ammo, knives, etc.) and he also coupons!  Yes I said he is a couponer.  I love that he is eclectic just like me, but I think that is all my fault.  I started doing it and then lost interest (and time) but he loves it.  He gets the papers on Sunday and cuts his little heart out and puts them all in a binder.  The problem is, he leaves the mess everywhere and lets the papers pile up for weeks...yep, weeks.  Could not take it anymore.  I also really needed a spot for my own desk to fit in the room. So, I decided this challenge was the perfect opportunity to knock this one out.

Taking Shape...

I moved the desk against the window, turned the long shelf back upright as it was originally intended and put the computer on the desk. I tried my best to untangle all the wires and even labeled them. It still looks like the wires had babies under the desk, but oh well. I'm working on a simple solution to cover them up (and I'll share it when I do).

The printer found a new home on the old computer desk.  The paper is now in the keyboard tray spot and the shredder fits perfectly underneath.  Victory. Dance.

Next, I moved in my own desk that had been out on the landing just outside the office door.  Didn't really like it there and never used it while it was there.  I love its new home and I love my bulletin board that will finally get used.  I plan to use it as an inspiration board.  I will use this desk now for paying bills or blogging or just hanging out with the hubby in our newly shared man cave office.

I still have some work to do in this space, especially turning the closet into another work space, but that will happen later.

I still have a few boxes to organize and papers to shred, but I now have a spot that I can comfortably tackle those tasks without wanting to run out of that room screaming with my hair on fire!

Looking forward to next week...organizing the kitchen~oh my aching pantry....
